Syncing Issues on Linux and Mac

Bug report

Environment

  • Platform: Linux
  • Platform version: Fedora
  • App Version: Linux fedora 6.11.7-300.fc41.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Nov 8 19:23:10 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux

How to reproduce

Trying to sync notes, either notes are not getting update on other platforms, or it takes a long time to get updates, was able to observe timeout issues, where running inkdrop from command line was showing that it can’t connect to the servers required for app to work.

I’m having some connectivity issues on my Mac as well. iPhone seems fine.

Another observation, I’ve updated a note, waiting for the syncing message to show last synced, in other words I thought that it completed a syncing process, but the update on the note is not visible on other devices, my assumption would be a timeout issue. I’ve also noted some slow syncing on my iphone.

Maybe a rate limiting?

Hi Frits,

Thanks for reporting.
I checked the server load of yesterday but it looks normal.

Which command did you run?

Both mobile and desktop apps use the same API. Are you under the same network when using your phone and PCs?
Are you behind a web proxy? It might affect the sync speed.
I can see access logs from your account on the db servers.

You can try network diagnosis:

Yes, I did use the same network for both mobile, desktop and laptop, desktop has two installations between system users(work and personal) that use the same account. I tried again this morning and when I started Inkdrop sync felt like it worked a lot better. yesterday it would only download 37 notes, today It’s at 99 which is the correct number of notes.

I don’t know what was happening yesterday, but it’s good to hear that it works properly now!

Internet gremlins I guess. thanks for the support

Hi, looks like I have some connection issues again, I just want to find out if there are any network rate limits in place on the server side before I continue hunting for network connection issues on my side, I’ve switch to a mobile network as a test and everything synced well, but going back to my wifi network I had connectivity problems again, but it was great when I logged in this morning, now again at the end of the day I’m struggling a bit. Oh, I’ve had the app open in the backgroun on my Mac most of the day? just wondering if that might have depleted a daily quote of API requests.

If there is a private way of sharing screenshots, I’ve got some.

No, you haven’t got rate-limited.
I’m running the app all day in the background, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Can you run a network diagnosis when you are having a connectivity issue?
You can report the result via DM privately.

He reported that it was due to his ISP.
