Gboard glide typing not working

I am still experiencing this issue with the Beta version of the Android app. Anything I can do to help diagnose the issue?

  • Platform: Android, Pixel 2
  • Platform version: 10
  • App Version: 3.6.0 (says the Android applications menu)

@Michael_Kochell
Thanks for the report.
I guess it looks like your environment-dependent issue.
Could you please create a separate topic for the issue?
Do you use Gboard or third-party keyboard?
If possible, please take a screencast to show me the issue.

Hi @craftzdog, thanks for the quick response!

I figured out how to reproduce the issue. I’m using GBoard with glide typing.

  1. Turn on glide keyboard
  2. Write some text on a line
  3. Move cursor to the beginning of the line (really just has to be not at the end)
  4. Write a word with glide typing
  5. Write a new word, without pressing space first (cursor is at the end of previous word).

Expected:
A space is created after the previous word, and new word is right after the space.

Observed:
The new word crashes into the next word. I really don’t know how else to describe it.

Here’s a video of it occurring. Don’t mind the quality of the recording. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpHs5MylH_k

Thank you for the screencast and detailed explanation.
It looks like a bug and I could reproduce it.
Gboard’s behaviors are quite inconsistent and that makes hard to support.
It will take time to fix, or it might be impossible.

BTW, Inkdrop uses CodeMirror for its editor and its next version is being developed now.
I’d expect it will fix this Gboard problems.

@craftzdog What’s the current status of including CodeMirror’s new version in the Inkdrop app?

@Michael_Kochell Pretty good. Check out the progress report here!
